Mid-Season Summer Fun!

With the 2013 season in full swing we have seen a decrease in the amount of racers this summer. I'm sure everyone is having some fun in cooler climates, but don't give up on us! Gila Monster Go Karts has been around for a long time and want involvement from everywhere. Here are some highlights of our season thus far!
There are new faces and some old familiar ones too!

Hope to see you soon!! Races start at 7pm. It's a free night for the family to enjoy and cheer for your favorite racer and kart! There is a concession stand with popcorn, snow cones, soda, water and much much more!! Head out to the Gila County Fairgrounds and follow the signs. Come on.... You know you want to!!!!

Hope all of the racers and families had a great off season and holidays. The 2013 season is fast approaching and here are the rules and new schedule.

Rules For 2013

A.  Fees & Pit Information:

1)  Entry fees for drivers are $15.00, any non-driver entering the pits a pass is $5.00 per person excluding children 5 and under Yrs. of age.

2)  In case of a cancelled race, pit pass must be repurchased for makeup race.

3)  The entry fee pays the child’s trophy/award for the night and electric bills for the track for the year.

4)  Every driver and parent and or legal guardian must sign a release form before a driver can race. Do to insurance reasons, anyone in pit area must sign in along with their driver this includes any parent and siblings.

5)  Everyone in the pits will attend the drivers meeting before wheel packing; this includes parents and or guardian and driver.

6)  All drivers will read the lineup board, then line up in staging area to be ready for the next race to start.





B. Point’s Distribution:

1)  Trophy dash will be 4 laps, lining up with the week before top 4 finishers from the main event. 5th place alternate if needed. There are no points for this race.

2)  Heat race line ups will be determined by a pill draw. The drivers must be present to draw a pill 45 minutes before advertised start time and 15 minutes before starting time for hot lapping. If you do not make it for pill draw you will tag the heat race.

3)  Heat race points are as follows: 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, and 2.

4)  Main event points are as follows: 40, 38, 36, 34, 32, and down dropping 2 points per position.

5)  Semi main events if needed: 4th place and back do not transfer to the main event.
                                                              
    5-1) Semi cars that do not make it to main will all receive 4 points.

6)  Heat races are 10 laps, main events are 20 laps, and semi-main events will be 12 laps. Beginners Class heat races are 8 laps, main event is 15 laps. Semi main will be 12 laps.
       12 cars will be in the main event. It will be at the discretion of the officials to allow more, and those extra cars will be placed in the back.


7)  Running order for main event line up: Qualifiers will tag the line up as inverted or straight up depending on the coin toss by the Main Flagman. Top 3 drivers from each heat race within their age group will be lined up according to their finish from the heat finishes and the coin toss. The 3 semi transfers will be aligned by coin toss among themselves at the rear of the pack. (If you have any questions, ask an official).


C. Flags:

·        GREEN: START RACE
·        WHITE FLAG: ONE LAP TO GO
·        YELLOW: SLOW DOWN
·        RED: STOP CAR AND TURN YOUR ENGINES OFF
·        BLACK: LEAVE THE TRACK
·        CHECKERED: THE RACE IS OVER

1)  When the flagman displays the white flag during the wheel packing session all 12-18 drivers must leave the track and line up in staging, which will give time for the 6-11 year old class to run their hot lap session. Then the 12-18 drivers return to the track for their hot lap session.

D. General Rules:

1)  There will be no excessive rough driving: such as bumping, pushing, cutting off, or wrecking. All drivers will receive a black flag warning at the pit board meeting before the race begins, 2nd offense will be a yellow flag and sent to the back of the pack, 3rd offense, the driver will be black flagged and must come off the track and will receive no points for that race. Penalty will be for that race and at the discretion of official.
    1-1)   In the case of a white flag situation, a rough driving penalization for the drivers involved will go to the end of the lead lap.

2)  In case of a rollover a red flag will be thrown and only the parent of that driver and track officials are allowed on the track.

     2-1) Your car will be checked for mechanical and safety issues by an official. If repairs need to be made, you have 5 laps for repair off the track.
     2-2) If you return before green flag is thrown, you will remain on the lead lap at the rear of the pack.
                           
3)  Flagman and corner flagmen have the track. They will be the only persons on the track. In case of a rollover, the parent of that driver and E.M.T will be the only persons on the track at that time.
     3-1) If officials request EMT, driver will be checked regardless. 

4)  There is a no touch rule on the track at all times. No one will be allowed to work on your cars while on the tack this includes no tools or starting materials. Parents and Officials may not talk to their driver during a race at any time, unless requested by an official or your driver will be penalized a lap down.
     4-1) If this is a mechanical issue; you must leave the track to fix it.  
     4-2) The following are safety issues those officials will fix on the track:
o   Seat Belts
o   Window Nets
o   Neck/ Arm Restraints
o   Helmet
o   Steering Wheel
o   Sternum Protector   

5)  If you cause or are involved in any yellow or red flag, you will go to the back. (Under official’s discretion per each situation).
          
     5-1) Involvement Rule: Cars involved in a wreck go to the back. Involved is defined as follows: Any car making contact or stopping on the track, and a car that was the cause of the yellow whether or not that car stops will go to the back. Cars making minimal contact while trying to avoid the wreck, which do not stop on the track, will not be considered involved and will retain their original position. If two cars have inadvertent close contact and one car spins, the spun car will go to the back. In multi-car pile ups, all cars involved go to the back.

6)  If you cause or are involved in 3 yellows, you will be black flagged for that race.

7)  If you are black flagged in your heat race, you will transfer to the semi or tag the main if no semi is taking place that night.
     7-1) You will not receive points for the heat race if you are black flagged.
     7-2)   If you are black flagged in the main you will not receive any points. You will still receive heat race points.

8)  All officials will be wearing “Safety Vests”. If they are needed on the track for official business, they will be called upon.

9)  The parent is responsible for driver and anyone in their pit areas. This includes the purchase of a pit passes.
      9-1) If there is trouble, the officials will be going to the parent of that driver!
      9-2) Parents or responsible parties may not leave their children unattended.                     
10) No more testing of cars during intermission.

E. Running Rules:

1.   All cars must wheel pack or driver must tag heat, as well as tag the main.

2.   Keep performance of cars equal, therefore providing victory to the most skilled driver.

3.   You must finish the race in the car that you started that race in, per each race. There will be no swapping of cars during the middle of a race.

4.   If there is no attempt to run in your heat race, you will not receive points and tag semi or main event.

5.    Cars leaving the track during a yellow or red flag   situation, will tag the field upon return.
       5-1) Unless it’s a safety issue determined by an official. The following are safety issues:
o   Seat Belts
o   Window Nets
o   Neck/Arm Restraints
o   Helmet
o   Steering Wheel
o   Sternum Protector

        5-2) If you don’t have safety equipment when you go on track. You will not get position back.

   6.  If you get upside down in your car, stay in your car, keep                        your arms inside the car, and turn off the engine. A track official will be there to assist you.

   7.  Every driver will drive their own cars slowly while in the pit area. VERY SLOWLY! Use proper entries and exits on the track.
 7-1) No one is to ride on Go Karts or Pace cars.

8.  If you feel there is a safety issue on your car during a race, contact an official before you pull your car off the track

9. The field will be given 2 tries with a double file restart. If a 3rd is required, the field will be lined up in a single file restart.
 9-1) If “Texas starting” occurs, it is considered a yellow, and the driver will be put to the rear.

10. On a yellow during a race, the cars that come through before the yellow is thrown will be counted and the rest of the field will be frozen and lined up reverting to the last lap.

 10-1) When the lead car comes across the line, that lap is counted.
“NOTE” You may protest a race. You have 5 minutes to file a protest after the race is posted. Protest must be in written form. After 5 minutes all results are final. Must provide own pen and paper.

F. Safety Rules:

1.   Rods that hold window nets must be secure so they do not fall away from the car. No tape, zip-ties, or wire can be used.
2.  Engine protection mandatory.
3.  Leg protection is mandatory. No opening for legs/or feet to escape.
       3-1) May use sheet metal or plastic.
       3-2) If using plastic must have 3 bar protection from seat forward per side.
4. If running front and rear bumpers, they must be looped and not extend past center of tire.
5. Kick outs or nerf-bars, between front and rear wheels are mandatory. (Nerf-bars may be covered with sheet metal).

6. A functional window net is required on both sides of the car, (Cannot be homemade).

7. Five point or better seat belts are mandatory. At least 2 inches wide with sternum protector, in good working condition, no loose ends hanging out.

8. Any safety modifications are welcome; please make sure there are no sharp or protruding parts hanging from the car.

9. Engines are limited to 6 hsp Tecumseh or Power horse, but must be stock appearing.

10. Pump fuel of any kind is allowed. However, absolutely no alcohol or methanol fuels of any kind can be used.
    Consequences:
·        1st offense- All points for the night are lost.
·        2nd offense- All points for the night is lost, plus suspension of the next race.
·        3rd offense- All points for the night is lost, plus suspension for the remainder of the season.
11. Numbers must be displayed on both sides and on the hood at least 10 inches high (visible and legible for the judges, no reflective colors). A smaller number should be placed on the rear of the car so drivers can see when they line up behind another driver.
         11-1) A new car to the track will have one grace race.
12. Clutch covers are mandatory (Must be covered top to bottom, side to side, and be able to deflect flying objects).

G. Tech and Safety Specifications: MANDATORY! This has been turned into the insurance company; nothing can be changed until next season. THERE WILL BE NO GRACE RACES!

I. Official Comments:

·        Unsportsman like conduct will not be tolerated by anyone. No cussing or yelling directed to anyone, or your car will be disqualified. If you are a spectator you will be asked to leave the track and not return. Remember we are in this to have fun with our kids, we are all volunteers.

·        Please remember this is a sport for our children and there is to be no drinking of alcohol on this property. All violators will be removed from the track and spectator area! There are no exceptions.

·        Pit board personnel are not officials. Any issues are to be taken to track officials.

·        If it’s not in the rules, consider it illegal and please ask an official.
